Ikigai is a beautifully written book of what it means to live a meaningful life. Centered around the Japanese concept of ikigai—your “reason for being.” The book takes readers to Okinawa, home to some of the world’s oldest and happiest people. Through interviews, scientific research, and thoughtful reflections, the authors share insights on longevity, happiness, and the power of purpose. After reading this book I decided to write a book review of Ikigai.
What I found most powerful was how the book inspired me to reflect on my own ikigai. I was encouraged to pause and think about what truly brings me joy, what makes me feel fulfilled, and why I do the things I do. It gently reminded me to seek out the things that make life feel purposeful and get back to doing things that I truly enjoy. It also made me feel a bit more confident in that how I feel and what I want is important, too.
One quote that really resonated with me was:
“Our ikigai is different for all of us, but one thing we have in common is that we are all searching for meaning.”
This simple truth captured the heart of the book—and stayed with me.
Ikigai doesn’t offer grand solutions or overnight transformations. Instead, it emphasizes the beauty of small, consistent actions. Reminding us about living intentionally, nurturing relationships, doing meaningful work, and embracing all the joy in the everyday.
Why Read This Book?
My book review of Ikigai? This book is enjoyable and easy to read. I absolutely recommend Ikigai to anyone feeling a little stuck or searching for inspiration. It energizes your self-worth and helps you find your self confidence. This book is a warm and inspiring guide to reconnect you with your sense of purpose. It serves as a gentle reminder to slow down to enjoy life.
